Meet Cassandre (@cassandre_roos)

Meet Cassandre: A French-American cyclist who discovered a passion for cycling during COVID after an ACL injury ended her competitive tennis career. Embracing the endurance side of cycling, Cassandre pushes through physical challenges, including two ACL surgeries and a recent accident, relying on mental strength and resilience. The LA cycling community, especially group rides like the Lady Racer’s Ride, plays a huge role in keeping her passion alive. When it comes to style, Cassandre loves Pedal Mafia for its quality and fit, always striving to match the gear with her bike.
1) Tell us about yourself. What’s your background and how did you get into cycling?
I’m a French-American cyclist who got into cycling during COVID. I used to play a lot of sports, with tennis being my most competitive, but an ACL injury turned me to cycling. I particularly love the endurance side of it and the long days in the saddle.
2) What does “endure” mean to you personally, and how does it reflect in your cycling journey?
As an endurance athlete, you’re constantly pushing your body to its limits, and as someone with several injuries that affect my performance, you really have to push through and master the mental side of it. Your body has to endure a lot, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
3) What challenges have you faced in your cycling career, and how have you overcome them?
I’ve definitely faced a bunch of challenges, including two ACL surgeries and recently getting hit by a car and going through that rehab process. Despite some of my non-cycling friends and family’s advice, I get back on the bike every day and don’t plan on ever giving that up.
4) What role does community play in your cycling experience, and how has it influenced you?
I think community is a huge aspect of cycling, especially in LA with the sheer number of fellow cyclists. Being able to always find a group ride to join and ride so often with friends is really the best part, especially group rides like the Lady Racer’s Ride organized by my friend Deb! It’s so cool to see everyone come together for a good day on the bike.
5) How do you incorporate your personal style or fashion into your cycling gear?
Style is a pretty big factor in cycling, especially in a city like LA. I personally mostly wear Pedal Mafia as I love the quality, fit, and style of their kit. They even have a jersey that matches the color of my bike, and as all cyclists know, the more you match, the better.
